Cubic yards = square feet × depth (in) ÷ 324. - Concrete bag yields: 80 lb = 0.60 ft³, 60 lb = 0.45 ft³, 40 lb = 0.30 ft³; about 45 / 60 / 90 bags per cubic yard. - A 10 × 10 ft slab 4 in thick is 1.23 yd³ (1.36 yd³ with 10% extra) = 62 bags of 80 lb concrete. - Gravel weighs about 1.4 tons per cubic yard; sand about 1.35; topsoil about 1.1 (dry); mulch about 0.3. - One cubic yard of mulch = 13.5 bags of 2 ft³ and covers about 108 sq ft at 3 in deep. - Typical 2026 break-even where bulk delivery beats bags: gravel about 0.5 yd³, topsoil about 0.9 yd³, concrete about 1.2 yd³ (with a ready-mix short-load fee), mulch about 5.4 yd³. ## Tools (one page each) - [Concrete calculator](https://bagorbulk.com/concrete-calculator/): Free concrete calculator for slabs, round pads and post holes. Get cubic yards and 40, 60 or 80 lb bag counts, and see if bags or a ready-mix truck costs less. How it works: Cubic feet = length × width × thickness (in) ÷ 12, plus extra for waste. Bags = cubic feet ÷ bag yield (80 lb = 0.6 ft³). Ready-mix cost includes delivery and any short-load fee. - [Gravel calculator](https://bagorbulk.com/gravel-calculator/): Free gravel calculator. Enter length, width and depth to get cubic yards, tons and bags of gravel, with the delivered cost of a bulk load versus buying bags. How it works: Cubic yards = length × width × depth (in) ÷ 324; tons = cubic yards × density (about 1.4 for gravel). Bulk cost = tons ordered × price + delivery. - [Mulch calculator](https://bagorbulk.com/mulch-calculator/): Free mulch calculator. Enter your bed size and depth to see cubic yards and 2 or 3 cu ft bags of mulch, and whether bags or bulk delivery costs less. How it works: Cubic feet = area × depth (in) ÷ 12. Bags = cubic feet ÷ bag size (2 or 3 ft³). One cubic yard = 13.5 bags of 2 ft³. - [Topsoil & sand calculator](https://bagorbulk.com/topsoil-calculator/): Free topsoil and sand calculator for raised beds, lawns and paver bases. Get cubic feet, cubic yards, bags and tons, and compare bags with a bulk delivery. How it works: Cubic feet = area × depth (in) ÷ 12, plus 10% for settling. Tons = cubic yards × density (topsoil about 1.1, sand about 1.35). - [Cubic yard calculator](https://bagorbulk.com/cubic-yard-calculator/): Free cubic yard calculator: enter length, width and depth to get cubic yards, cubic feet, cubic meters and tons of gravel, soil, sand, mulch or concrete. How it works: Cubic yards = cubic feet ÷ 27; cubic feet = area (ft²) × depth (in) ÷ 12. Tons = cubic yards × the material’s density, which you can change. ## Guides - [How many bags of concrete?](https://bagorbulk.com/how-many-bags-of-concrete/): Bags of concrete for common slab sizes at 4, 5 and 6 inches thick, with 10% extra: 80 lb and 60 lb bag counts and cubic yards, from the BagOrBulk calculator. - [Bags vs ready-mix concrete](https://bagorbulk.com/concrete-bags-vs-ready-mix/): At what size does a ready-mix truck beat 80 lb bags? Multiply length (ft) by width (ft) by depth (in), divide by 12 to get cubic feet, then divide by 27. Shortcut: square feet × depth in inches ÷ 324 = cubic yards. ### How many bags of concrete are in a yard? About 45 bags of 80 lb concrete, 60 bags of 60 lb or 90 bags of 40 lb, using the manufacturers' yields of 0.6, 0.45 and 0.3 cubic feet per bag. ### How much does a yard of gravel weigh? About 1.4 tons (2,800 lb). It ranges from 1.3 to 1.5 tons depending on stone size and moisture. ### How many bags of mulch are in a yard? 13.5 bags of 2 cubic feet, or 9 bags of 3 cubic feet. ### When is bulk cheaper than bags? At typical 2026 prices, bulk wins above about half a cubic yard of gravel, about 1 yard of topsoil, 1¼ yards of concrete and 5 yards of mulch. Delivery fees and local prices move these points, so enter yours. ### How much extra should I buy? About 10% for concrete, gravel and soil (spillage, compaction and settling) and 5% for mulch. The calculators add it automatically, and you can change it. ## Related tools - [GradeOrFlip](https://gradeorflip.com/): Is it worth grading?
